Paytollo has successfully transformed electronic toll payments.  With a simple download of their app to your smartphone, you can travel on any toll road in Florida without stopping in a cash lane, or paying additional administrative fees charged by the toll agencies.

Paytollo was the brainchild of a Silicon Valley engineer that fined over $100 for passing through an electronic tollbooth in a rental car.  Without knowing it, he incurred an administrative fee/fine for over $100.  He decided there had to be a better way.  He set out to find a solution.  The app uses a GPS platform and proprietary algorithms to act as your own personal transponder. The gas tax is the primary funding mechanism for transportation in the State of Florida.  Unlike the federal gas tax, Florida’s gas tax is indexed to inflation.  This means that a 6 cent per gallon tax this year will increase by the cost of inflation every year there after.  This is better than most states since legislators don’t have to publicly support these annual increases.  However, it is not enough to keep pace with the growth that Florida is experiencing.  Tolls are a viable and fair complement to the gas tax.  It is important for transportation professionals in Florida to support tolling as an added source of revenue.  One great way to promote tolls is to through membership in the Transportation and Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL).
