Paytollo – Transforming Electronic Toll Payments

Paytollo has successfully transformed electronic toll payments.  With a simple download of their app to your smartphone, you can travel on any toll road in Florida without stopping in a cash lane, or paying additional administrative fees charged by the toll agencies.

Paytollo was the brainchild of a Silicon Valley engineer that fined over $100 for passing through an electronic tollbooth in a rental car.  Without knowing it, he incurred an administrative fee/fine for over $100.  He decided there had to be a better way.  He set out to find a solution.  The app uses a GPS platform and proprietary algorithms to act as your own personal transponder.

Let’s look at an example.  A family travels to Orlando for two week vacation and they rent a car.  After loading the rental car, they take a picture of its license plate and exit the airport onto the Bee-Line toll road.  Instead of stopping at the two or three tollbooths to pay cash, they drive through the electronic toll lanes at highway speed.  Their credit card is charged the value of a cash customer and nothing more.  This family didn’t have to rent a transponder from the rental car company, and they didn’t have to wait in line to pay a toll.

With technology eclipsing at an enormous rate of speed, toll technology has been left behind…until now.

Paytollo has an agreement with the Central Florida Expressway Authority to provide this service on all toll roads in Florida.  Since Florida has an interoperability agreement among all toll agencies in the State, Paytollo doesn’t have to engage separate agreements with each toll provider in Florida.  They simply utilize the back-office operated by the Central Florida Expressway Authority and remit the toll charged to the corresponding agency.
