Tolls and Florida

The gas tax is the primary funding mechanism for transportation in the State of Florida.  Unlike the federal gas tax, Florida’s gas tax is indexed to inflation.  This means that a 6 cent per gallon tax this year will increase by the cost of inflation every year there after.  This is better than most states since legislators don’t have to publicly support these annual increases.  However, it is not enough to keep pace with the growth that Florida is experiencing.  Tolls are a viable and fair complement to the gas tax.  It is important for transportation professionals in Florida to support tolling as an added source of revenue.  One great way to promote tolls is to through membership in the Transportation and Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL).

TEAMFL was formed to facilitate the exchange of information among toll agencies and the transportation industry. The membership is made up of board members and executive staff of statewide expressway and transit authorities, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Transportation Commission and private sector transportation partners.

TEAMFL members discuss statewide issues in an effort to develop high quality roadway systems in all corners of the state.

Public Sector Group represents members of toll authorities, expressway authorities and bridge authorities, which are created under Chapters 348 or 349 of the Florida Statutes.

Private Sector Group is comprised of professions or business organizations involved in furnishing goods or professional services to the development, ownership, operation, financing or planning of limited access expressways, toll roads or bridges.

TEAMFL membership dues includes multiple registrations to our quarterly meetings each year; as well as education, information regarding toll agencies and the transportation industry.
